As math teachers, it can often be daunting to compile helpful resources of that fit different learning preferences. I have discovered a resource that caters to different activities and various subareas of math content. Math-drills.com is a helpful (and FREE) resource for teachers to access worksheets, flash cards, and interactive games. One feature that is particularly helpful for teachers is that the free materials provided cover a broad range of topics, such as number sense, arithmetic, pre-algebra, geometry, measurement, and money concepts. You can also narrow down the focus to particular units within those subareas.

An attraction this resource offers is that it can be accessed not only by teachers, but students as well. Students can play the various interactive games, such as sudoku, but they can also access vocabulary flashcards. There is also a unit converter feature that allows students and teachers to convert units quickly. Math-drills.com also makes an effort to make learning math concepts fun. Around holidays, teachers have access to different themed worksheets based on the occasion. There is no cost to accessing the materials provided from this website, however, it is encouraged to participate in the weekly newsletters to provide feedback for the materials used. Overall, Math-drills.com is an affordable and useful resource for teachers!

    Heather, this resource does sound amazing! Obviously I love the fact that it is free, and I find that incredible that all of these resources are available for no cost. I think teaching during a time where so many resources are at our fingertips is such a blessing. Like you mentioned, the students also have access to this site, which is so helpful. Not only are you able to assign worksheets in class, but you could assign homework or even extra practice problem for the students at home. The idea of may practice problems and pre-made flashcards for students to use when they need additional help is one of the benefits of this resource. The festive worksheets would also be a fun addition to the classroom!

    This site is outside of my content area but it seems highly productive for learning. It’s super cool that the website includes over 50,000 free math worksheets. The many games it offers is a good way for students to entertain themselves and stay fairly engaged with certain material. I also enjoyed the thirty sources provided for learning. It’s good to know that even students can use this site and have an individualistic feel for the site because there might not be two students doing the same thing at the same time on the website.

Subjects Matter: Synthesis Blog on Chapter 2

How Smart Readers Think Daniels and Zemelman's  Subjects Matter  Chapter 2 discusses how to use appropriate reading strategies to increase reading comprehension. The authors argue that we sometimes struggle as readers, not because we can't read, but because we don't know the right ways to approach the text provided. Not having comprehension strategies established early in our reading careers significantly impacts our overall literacy later in school and in life. Measurement Ideas

As a student, I never took the time to consider what measurement actually means. Chapter 14 discusses what measurement means and the implication it has on understanding measurement in math. TCSM defines measurement as "a number that indicates a comparison between an attribute of the object (or situation or event) being measured and the same attribute of a given unit of measure (341). By understanding measurement as a comparison method, students will begin to understand how an object can be measured using different units that describe the objects weight, volume/ capacity, length, or area. With the definition of measurement in mind, one way teachers can help their students gain conceptual knowledge of measurement is by helping them create models that demonstrate the idea of space and units that can be iterated to measure an attribute of an object.
